8 PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES TO DO DURING LOCKDOWN

While the world is doing their bit—doing the countdown, and waiting for the lockdown to end, while we see lockdown getting extend every fortnight, life seems to be all monotonous and unexciting. At this point, nobody can complain because all of it is happening to bring things to normal, the new normal.

We agree (and can relate) it must be exhausting to stay indoors for so long. Even the ones who weren’t the social bees themselves are coming in terms with their dull life of staying home. Instead of physically tiring yourself in doing all the house chores, office work, or simply lying on the bed (yes, it is exhausting as well.)

Home makeover

This might be the perfect time for you to settle down, take a look around, and focus on your home. We are spending most of our time at our house during the lockdown, so why not work on it a little? A bonus being, you will be able to disinfect and clean your entire home, giving it a fresher, and a new look. Also, there must be tons of things that you might be wanting to reject for ages. So, declutter your home, and flip your dining or seating arrangements. Change your decor or try out new furniture combinations. You’d either be proud of yourself for your creativity or losing a few kilos by while moving around things at home.

Beauty treatment

With all the services being shut nowadays, sadly, your favorite salon also is not serviceable. Your skin must be craving for some good care and nourishment. This is just the right time to indulge in some self-care. It’s not entirely about you alone; you can give your partner or your family members a head massage. Or curate head-to-toe beauty packages including face masks, scrubs, organic packs for yourself. Browse on the internet for at-home beauty treatments according to your skin type and the skin condition that you are targeting.

Learn something new

Everyone dreams of having the luxury of finding time to enroll in courses that enhance their skill or resume. Of course, this lockdown is not going to go on for ages, but it has already changed the course of the education sector. Most of the classes have gone online, and it would take a long time for it to switch back to regular classes. This is the time to register yourself and learn the skills that you have always wanted to. There are some additional diploma and certificate courses that would improve your credentials and career. Waste no time and register yourself.

Organizing

Unless you have OCD, the chances are slim that you would have a perfectly organized wardrobe, kitchen cabinet, or bookshelf.  And by organizing, we mean, decluttering first, and then organizing everything. There might be one outfit that does not fit you anymore or a piece of jewelry that is merely piling on dust. Look out for the old medicines, rough papers, batteries that you assume would throw away one day. The day is today. This is the best time to get rid of anything non-useful or irrelevant. Of course, consult your family first before discarding anything. If you wish to pass on an item to someone who would benefit from it, disinfect it first before giving it away.

Fitness first

It is never too late to work on yourself. This time could not be better to get fit. We don’t mean you lose all your weight or start crash dieting; you can always begin a regime. Lockdown or Lockdown-like regulations are not going to go any time soon, so why not take the help of this period and transform yourself? It is not only about losing weight; it is all about feeling positive, feeling mentally lighter, and getting healthy.

Gardening

Green thumbs or not, you are going to love this activity as it would make you get up from your couch every day. If you have enough space in your house, create a  tranquil garden of your own. You have the luxury to build your nirvana right at your home. All that time you are spending at your place would be best if you bring the outer world in your home. Creating a home garden is all you need right now. Not only are you introducing organic foods to your kitchen, but also beautifying your home with biophilic designs. This idea would enhance the aesthetic appeal and purify the air of your space. You can grow vegetables like onions, tomatoes, pumpkins, bell peppers, okra, chili. Your favorite herbs like lemongrass, coriander, mint, basil, ginger, mustard, and garlic, can be grown to add organic flavors to your food and beverages.

All you need is a place that receives at least 5 to 6 hours of sunlight. You can pour water as per the required amount for the plant. Do check out gardening videos on YouTube for tips and suggestions.

Meditation

This one is a no-brainer. Times like these can get stressful, to the extent that even introverts and not so social-bees are feeling the burden. This makes the person think— A lot! Almost to a level that a person might believe that they are getting anxious or getting depressed. If you are dealing with all such things, then you are highly mistaken. Get some fresh air (right at your home), choose a corner and meditate daily.

Reconnect

This is going to be fun. A lot of times, due to our hectic schedule, we get on with our lives but forget about our old friends and relatives. There is a huge communication gap, and by the time you think of connecting with them, your guilt of not contacting them for so long postpones the idea every time. This time you have all the time in the world, so take a step to break the ice to reconnect with your old friends and live your memories once again. You would be surprised to know that you are not the only one thinking about how you have been dealing with this situation. Not always do you have to reconnect with people who are living miles away; sometimes, they are your family members with whom you haven’t been able to spend quality time for a long time. Sit with them, talk about your childhood, some cherished moments, and appreciate their love for you. Cooking with them and for them would also strengthen your bond with them.

Productivity has no limits; it has nothing to with cerebral or physical development. By productivity, we mean, your happiness and growth. If you are not able to cook the way your friends are cooking on social media or finish novels like your colleagues, it is completely alright, as long as you are feeling at ease. There are a hundred things you can do during the lockdown, and all of them are productive as long as you are feeling it. Make sure whatever you choose to do makes you happy and spreads positivity. Another aspect of productivity is to be prepared for the world post lockdown, which would be full of preventions, precautions, and numerous issues. Do not let the lockdown lock-you or your thoughts-down. You are doing fine as long as you choose to move with the world.
