WordPress 5.9 Gutenberg to Revolutionize Publishing

WordPress 5.9 has been released with the code name Josephine. One of the major changes introduced in this new version is the full site editing. Over the years, the WordPress Editor has gone through many changes. You might have used a WordPress Classic Editor followed by a new block editor called Gutenberg Editor.

Those who have faced the complexities in Classic Editor must have thanked WordPress for Gutenberg.

With Gutenberg Editor, it is easy to create anything. Whether it is title block, image block or any kind of block, the editor lets you add all sorts of components to your site.

Simply put, the Gutenberg editor gives you the freedom to create anything. First launched in 2018 in WP 5.0, it is basically a block editor as it lets you create web pages using blocks, which are “bricks” that are put together to create posts or pages on a website.

Gutenberg was introduced to simplify website development.

This official WordPress 5.9 announcement ensures full control over the creation, editing, and enhancement of the content—

“WordPress 5.9 features new typography tools, flexible layout controls, and finer control over details like spacing, borders, and more to help you achieve not just the look, but the polish that indicates you care about the details.”

Gutenberg in WordPress 5.9—What To Expect?

In WP 5.9, Gutenberg has been armed with full site editing capabilities. It means that this tool can be used in a live publishing environment.

While a new Site Editor is there with WP 5.9, some key changes have been made to Gutenberg Interface and Functionality. The new generation of themes makes room for greater customization and easy creation. Themes can now be built entirely with blocks. So you will have all the familiar editing tools and the same blocks in place while creating posts and pages for all parts of the site.

No Need to Open Up the Customizer on Different Web Page:

The traditional way of customizing a WordPress page was to open the Customizer on a new web page in the administrator section. This is gone now with the launch of WP 5.9. The new version has freed up you to use the site editor that can be used to enhance the site or single template.

WordPress Default Block Theme

With the introduction of WP 5.9, a new default block-based theme called Twenty Twenty-Two (2022!) has been featured. The new default theme lets you leverage site editing and patterns. Thanks to the wide range of templates to choose from. Patterns are coupled into sections. Twenty-twenty-two really is packed full of refreshing templates, patterns, and parts. With a simple add or swap, you can build stunning layouts that would be challenging to create with older editors.

It also comes with a template directory that can simplify the swapping of premade blocks for customization. WP 5.9 features drag and drop functionality to make it easy to place things at the desired places.

Should You Try WordPress Gutenberg or Wait?

Not all users feel the same about the new technology. Some need time to determine if a new technology is worth it. But that Gutenberg has been around for 4 years. So Gutenberg can be trusted as it has been matured with updated over time.

With the launch of WP 5.9, the editor has attained a full site release status and can be used for live sites. Even the users of page builders like Elementor or Divi will get familiar with Gutenberg in no time.

This tool aims to support site development.
