Want to Earn Money from YouTube? Top YouTube Monetization Tips

You have learned the YouTube algorithm. You have done your channel’s SEO. You have even mastered YouTube’s analytics. Here comes the next goal to achieve–make some money from your YouTube channel.

With YouTube’s monetization features, you can do just that. And since creating a YouTube channel is simpler than you think, it costs nothing to think big and look for bigger goals.

To help you turn YouTube into a cash machine, here I have come up with this article to walk you through all the tips that you should know if you want to know how to make money with YouTube. Without any further ado, let’s get it started.

Join the YouTube Partner Program or YPP:

To enable monetization on YouTube, you are required to meet specific requirements and join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). And these are some things to follow to be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program.

  • Have at least 1,000 subscribers
  • Have at least 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months
  • Have an AdSense account
  • Get reviewed and approved
  • Comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines.

Advertisements:

You can earn ad revenue for display, overlay, and video ads. Image ads appear to the right of a video and above the suggestion list that appears to the right, while overlay ads appear in a kind of transparent banner in the bottom 20% of the video. Video ads are probably the most well-known (and controversial) form, as they appear before or during videos and can be, let’s face it, a bit annoying for viewers. There are two forms of video ads: skippable and non-skippable. Skippable video ads allow viewers to skip ads after 5 seconds if they choose. They are inserted before, during, or after the main video, while non-skippable video ads must be viewed before the video. With these ad placements, the YouTuber gets a percentage based on views, clicks, and more.

Memberships:

Channel memberships allow viewers to join your channel through recurring monthly payments and in exchange for exclusive member benefits like badges, emojis, and other goodies (it works a bit like Twitch ).

Merchandise Showcase:

YouTube allows you to sell official branded merchandise, something YouTubers actually earn money from. The Product Library will display up to 12 products to your viewers, who can change the order in which they are viewed by opting out of the default, or you (the YouTuber) can select up to 12 specific items to display and sort to your liking.

Super chat and Super Stickers:

If you ever joined a Livestream on YouTube, you might have noticed that some messages are highlighted over others. This is because YouTube enables creators to Super Chat on their premiers and live videos. This monetization feature lets viewers pay between $1 to $500 to get their message highlighted in a Livestream chat.

Likewise, Super Stickers are used to highlight the messages. Many users prefer those fun stickers over getting their chat messages highlighted. These stickers are generally pinned to the top of the chat to catch the eye of the creator.

Last but not least—the Super Thanks feature lets users show appreciation to the creators. By paying a small amount, users can get their comments featured in the live stream chat. Unlike Super Chats and Super Stickers, Super Thanks can be bought on any uploaded videos, apart from Premiers and live streams.

Opt for YouTube Premium Revenue:

Get part of the subscription fee from YouTube Premium members when they watch your content. Revenue from YouTube Premium membership fees is distributed to video creators based on the number of members who view their content.

Each of these features has its own set of eligibility requirements in addition to subscriber and view count requirements. For example, for YouTube Premium earnings, you have to create content that is viewed by a viewer who is a YouTube Premium subscriber, while for Super Chat earnings you have to live in a country/region where Super Chat is available.

Create YouTube Shorts:

YouTube launched a fund for creators, just as other social networks have done, to encourage the creation of Shorts.

This is currently in beta so it is not available in all locations. To monetize your Shorts you must have uploaded at least one short in the last 180 days and some requirements that are not specified (they will notify you if you meet them).

It is specified that videos with watermarks or logos of other social networks, not originals or copies of other uploaded videos are not eligible for monetization.

Join Membership or Affiliation:

Affiliation is a system with which you can earn money through a code or link provided by a brand in exchange for promoting their products or services.

The more people who use that code or link, the more they will pay you since you get a percentage of each sale (the percentage you take depends on each brand, or it may be a fixed price per sale).

That is why it is very common when talking about a tool, product, info product, or service that you see a link with UTM codes (or shortened, to make it more beautiful or easier to remember).

If you want to support a creator who works with affiliation, it is a good way to help them, since, if you are going to buy or hire something, you know that a percentage of what you pay will go to that person who helps you with their content.

So these are the ways to earn money from your YouTube channel. Again, make sure to read YouTube’s guidelines related to monetization.
